@PuffyTail: It seems like they're sticking with Lando and Han as the basic archetypes for smugglers...even on the female side. Long shirts under vests and caped costumes abound (somewhat odd since that's Lando's Bespin administrator clothing, not smuggler gear).
I guess the third alternative on their site, space cowboy with a a hat and long coat, works thematically too, but it's still a bit odd to see it in Star Wars.
@kagekiri: What makes you think Lando DIDN'T dress like that when he was a smuggler? Just macking on interstellar ladies at Mos Eisley, rocking a cape and enjoying the bold yet smooth flavor of Colt 45.
I don't care if you're in this galaxy or one far, far away - it works every time.
@Edfire77: I think it was Han's surprise at Lando's appearance that made me assume he had changed his clothing, but maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly; I suppose it could be more surprise hearing about his new position and/or wealth instead.
You have a good point: he seems like the kind to wear that kind of stuff everywhere. Heck I guess he wore it during the Death Star II fight too.

it worked for cad bane. though, he's a bounty hunter, and not a smuggler.
@rogue32: Yeah, I know it's Cad Bane's getup, but the cowboy hat seems almost too Earthy or Firefly like. Though that's not an inherently terrible thing, it still strikes me as weird.

I'd say that the Consular looks like she's less heavily armoured, compared to the Knight, whose robes are layered over a set of sturdy looking armour - perhaps indicating that the Knight is designed for tanking, whereas the Consular is more of a DPS-focussed class with low defence but high damage moves? Perhaps having only her robes could also indicate the Consulars as more dextrous - not wieghed down by a suit of armour - so could have abilities like saber groundpounding from force powered leaps, or lightning-quick flurries, or increased dodging skills, whereas the knight's skillbase could be based around slow, but powerful single strike attacks?
So yeah, on Image alone i'd say that's two differences you can eke out from them. Then again, i'm being really anal about this and wanted to challenge you over it AJ! =D
@Reldaw: That sounds right, since it was the case in KOTOR. I also imagine the warrior's buffs to focus on the player's character and the consular to buff the whole group. The warrior probably has access to more spiffy lightsaber forms, like dual wielding and double-bladed sabers.
@Paradox me: Well, there are going to be thousands of them in this age, compared to any other previously seen Star Wars era. I guess it makes sense that they can't all be Yoda, but are more like Jedi infantry.
I agree though, the design is not as appealing as usual for the Jedi.
@Shinta: I'm not a big fan of how clean and Star Trek-esque Star Wars art and character design has been in the past decade. I think Lucas Film wants a unified look for the Star Wars IP across all media, so we get the cartoonish and sterile design doctrine from the prequel trilogy.
@MrGOH: That makes sense. I think it kind of worked for the prequel movies (at least the first one), but this is far before that and it should have a different look. It's hard to distinguish them. It's right out of the Clone Wars with almost no difference.
@tetracycloide: Because, having unique classes is fun. It's a badge of honor, a signal of who you are. In an MMO, that's actually more important, not less.
@tetracycloide: Visuals help in pvp combat. If whatever class you are has specific item sets it's a nice prelude to know how to approach a combat situation.
@Shinta: well, just to use WoW as an example the apperance is not always a good indicator of class. it's a good indicator of race which can be an indicator of class but it's not a direct indicator of what class a character is.
@LilSpitfire: this could go one of two ways, either class specific sets are different enough to be noticable or not knowing what classes people are on apperance alone is simply part of the strategy. personally i hope they go with option 2. i guess there's a third option of not having pvp at all.

Consular: mage- uses the force more than the saber
Knight: knight- uses the saber more than the force

Not that it'd actually work on a console.
Speaking of MMO's and being on a console, how's that APB doing?
Oh and Miss Solo is looking good, real good.
